Tuesday, May 01, 2007 DOST boosts support on packaging, labeling assistance to SMEs
Are you in need of good packaging and labeling for your products? If yes, then avail of the services of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through its Packaging Research and Development Center (PRDC).
The center, which is a flagship project of the DOST, is intended to strengthen the overall competitiveness of Philippine products, thus enhancing the socio-economic growth of the country.
Packaging is the leading edge ingredient in economic development and sustainability. Trade cannot progress without packaging. It allows for the orderly and economic distribution of all products.
With the growing population worldwide, it is a necessity to have more packages in order to preserve more and to get more products to new consumers. Changing trends in the market for final products also impose corresponding changes in the composition and characteristics of packaging.
For developing countries like the Philippines, it is imperative to keep abreast on the increasing sophistication in packaging to sustain its position both in the domestic and export markets. Labeling, particularly in food products is very important and useful source of information, primarily to inform and protect consumers on nutrition facts.
With this, the DOST intensifies its effort in providing packaging and labeling assistance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Through the DOST's Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (set-up), qualified SMEs can now avail of financial assistance to upgrade the packaging and labeling of their products.
To avail of the program, interested applicants should submit the requirements at the DOST 9, to wit: project proposal, company profile, letter signifying interest, latest business permits, certified true copy of the Certificate of Registration of Business Name, Board Resolution authorizing and designating authorized signatories to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with DOST 9 (for associations & cooperatives).
