Tuesday, May 01, 2007 Plant trees to cushion global warming effect, says DENR head By Bong Garcia
THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) urged the public to plant trees in their respective communities to help cushion the effects of global warming.
DENR Regional Executive Director Ernesto Adobo Jr. said that massive planting of trees is one way to cushion the effect of global warming since trees absorbs carbon dioxide.
Carbon dioxide is the leading cause of global warming based on studies conducted by Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), according to Adobo.
He said this is the reason why they launched the project called Green Philippines Highway (GPH), wherein thousands of trees of different species were planted along the major highways stretching from Luzon to Mindanao.
He also urged to the public to help them rehabilitate and maintain the trees that were planted when the GPH was launched aside from planting trees in their respective localities.
He said everyone should help in the campaign against global warming since "all of us are affected."
