Wednesday, May 30, 2007 Ched grants tuition fee hike to 7 schools By Bong Garcia
THE Commission on Higher Education (Ched) has approved the request of six private schools in Zamboanga City and one public school in Zamboanga del Sur province for a tuition fee hike effective school year 2007-2008.
Ched Education Supervisor Teresita Pinili said the seven schools requested for a tuition hike so they could pay increases in the salaries of their respective teachers.
The six private schools in this city that were approved for tuition hike are: Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School (ICAS); Pilar College; Southern City Colleges; Ebenezer Bible College; Systems Technology Institute; and Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
Pinili said the tuition hike ranges from six percent to 6.2 percent from the previous matriculation fee.
The public school that was granted a 12 percent tuition hike is the Western Mindanao State University-Dumingag in Zamboanga del Sur.
Aside from tuition, there will also be increases in miscellaneous fees in the seven schools.
Officials of the Department of Education (Deped) expected a surge in the enrollment of public schools as an after-effect of tuition hikes in private schools.
