Saturday, June 02, 2007 Zambo police official suspended By Bong Garcia
THE Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has slapped a two-month suspension on a police officer for filing a case against a suspected illegal gambling operator despite the lack of evidence.
ZCPO Director Manuel Barcena named the suspended police official as Sr. Insp. Jerome Afuyog, the station commander of police station 10, located in Barangay Ayala, west of this city.
Barcena said the case was immediately dismissed due to technicalities.
Aside from that, Barcena said Afuyog ended up the accused instead of the accuser in the case the latter filed against a suspected illegal gambling operator.
He cautioned all his officers and men to be careful in filing cases, so as not to end up at the loosing end.
"They should be careful. They should thoroughly scrutinize the evidence at hand before filing a case against (any) suspect," he said.
Barcena said he will order the conduct of a seminar that would serve as a refresher course to all his officers and men.
