Wednesday, August 08, 2007 Culianan Learning Center gifted with 8 computer units
THE City Government of Zamboanga and the Regional Executives Association of Western Mindanao (Reawesmin Inc.) have joined forces to increase the level of education and knowledge of the school children of Barangay Culianan in the east coast.
Mayor Celso Lobregat and Reawesmin officials Rafael Evangelista (outgoing chairman) and Brenda Nazareth (incoming chair) on Tuesday formally turned over eight computer units to the Culianan Learning Center during simple rites that coincided with the induction of officers of the association of regional executives.
“Today’s event is a joint project of the city government and the Reawesmin. It is seen as a step forward in increasing the level of education and knowledge of the people of Culianan, more particularly the pupils and students”, Lobregat said.
When he was in Congress, Lobregat also identified the distribution of computers to public elementary and secondary schools in the city as one of his priority development projects.
In his message, he cited the need to educate the young people and make them knowledgeable in the use of computers. “The absence of research books for students in the secondary level makes it necessary for schools to have computers for ready access to information from science and technology to economics, politics and general information.”
He vowed that his administration will not falter in its commitment to make available the necessary facilities and equipment to public schools even if it is the main responsibility of the National Government.
Meanwhile, outgoing Reawesmin chair Rafael Evangelista said the turn over of computers to the Culianan Learning Center is in support of the E-Impact (Enhanced Instructional Management by Parents, Community and Teachers) program of the Usaid.
The Culianan Learning Center is a model school for the E-Impact for the past few years. It has received numerous recognitions based on results of the program implementation.
Representatives from the Department of Education and Culianan Learning Center Principal Josefina Lacastesantos expressed admiration to the support being given by the city government and the Reawesmin to the school.
Of the total eight computers turned over, four are from the city government while the other four are from the Reawesmin.
