Thursday, September 27, 2007 Tulungatung phase 3 resettlement site energized By Sheila E. Covarrubias
LIGHT has come to the 155 houses now constructed at the city-owned Tulungatung resettlement site phase III in the west coast.
Mayor Celso Lobregat and officials from the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) Wednesday morning spearheaded the switch on ceremony for the single phase line extension project costing almost P500, 000 at the Tulungatung Resettlement Site Area Phase III.
The project, sourced from the 5 percent of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) subsidy for the Zamcelco, will benefit some 155 families now resettled in the area. It covers .290 kilometers of primary line and an under build of .165 kilometers.
“The city government looks at building not only houses or a resettlement site but a community itself where the needed amenities and infrastructures are also provided,” Mayor Lobregat announced before the homeowners, Tulungatung barangay officials, Zamcelco representatives, City Council members and other city officials during the switch-on rite Wednesday morning.
The phases I and II of the resettlement area were already energized years back costing Zamcelco almost P1.5 million for the two projects.
Aside from energization, Lobregat said the Zamboanga City Water District is also in the process of laying water pipes in the Phase III area to ensure sufficient water service to the residents.
The City Government is also pouring in assistance for the construction of school buildings at the Tulungatung Elementary School and pursuing the site development of the resettlement area.
Last month, Lobregat inaugurated a two-storey six classroom building in the barangay and, because of the expected increase in the number of enrollees, the city government has allocated funding for the construction of a similar school-building next year.
“We are happy that the amenities and infrastructures for the resettlement site are on going as we develop the area”, the mayor emphasized. Last Saturday, he was in the same site for the ground breaking ceremony of 10 proposed housing units to be built by the Gawad Kalinga Foundation.
Lobregat thanked the Zamcelco for providing electricity connections to the households in the resettlement site in line with its vision of “a dedicated electric cooperative providing reliable service for customers’ satisfaction”.
Present during the energization and switch-on ceremony were Councilors Nonong Guingona, Rudy Lim, Lynet Abarro, Gerky Valesco, Jawo Jimenez, Zamcelco officials Edgardo Ancheta, Wilhelmino Bazan and Alexis Ortega, Tulungatung Barangay Council officials led by Charlito Sumbrana and several others.
