Thursday, October 04, 2007 Researchers to compete in 7th industry, energy R&D competitions
THE Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD) opens last September its nationwide search and competitions for the outstanding research work in the industry and energy sectors.
Conducted every two years to give time and chances for more entries, the event is known as the 7th PCIERD Regional and National S&T Fora and Competitions in Industry and Energy Research and Development (R&D).
The culmination of the activity, which is also in time for the PCIERD 26th anniversary, is on March 17, 2008.
The competition is PCIERD’s way of recognizing the outstanding researches in industry and energy that have contributed to the growth of science and technology in the country.
It is open to all Filipino engineers, scientists and researchers from universities and colleges, R&D institutions and private industries involved in R&D work in the industry and energy sectors.
The PCIERD is giving away big cash prizes for the best product, process or equipment developed in the following sectors: 1) chemicals, 2) Construction, 3) Disaster Mitigation, 4) Energy, 5) Environment, 6) Food and Feed, 7) Metals and Engineering, 8) Mining and Minerals, and 9) Transportation.
The PCIERD has always emphasized on the need to encourage researchers and technology generators to be more responsive to evolving scientific and technological trends. There are also many opportunities awaiting them in industry and energy R&D.
Further, promoting technology development and eventual adoption or transfer of these technologies, are also important and it is expected that the competitions will stir up further collaborations in these areas.
Submitted entries will be screened and those that who will qualify will be presented during the scheduled Regional S&T Fora Competition. Winners will vie at the National Level in March 13, 2008.
