THE Brunei Darussalam has sent a new batch of monitors to help oversee the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the Philippine government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
The new batch of monitors from Brunei composed the fourth batch and headed by Major Haji Mohd Rosmadi, Company B Commander of the Third Battalion.
Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Virginia Benavidez said they will form part of the Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team that overseas the ceasefire agreement while the Philippine government and MILF panels are engaged in peace talks.
She said the Brunei IMT contingent will be responsible for observing and monitoring cessation of hostilities and the implementation of socio-economic development projects along with IMT members from other countries like Malaysia and Libya.
Benavidez reiterated the country’s deep appreciation for Brunei’s active participation and continued involvement in the IMT.
The peace talk is aimed at ending the decades-old hostilities here in Mindanao that caused the deaths of several people and displaced many others.
