TWO international boxing bouts that will showcase two Filipino boxers, one of them a Zamboangueño, matched against two Thais is scheduled in this city.
Second District Congressman Erico Basilio Fabian said the holding of the first-ever international bouts has been finalized and is set to be held on December 1, 2007, at the Zamboanga Coliseum.
The two boxing bouts are sanctioned by the Games and Amusement Board. It is part of Fabian’s effort to promote sports tourism.
The main event is a 10-round flyweight division bout between Asia-Pacific Champion Drian Francisco from the Flash Elorde Stable against Thailander Siwagorn Pradabsri, who is rated No. 3.
The second showdown, a 10-round featherweight division bout, will see action of Zamboangueño boxer Eric Canoy from Fabian Stable against Rated No. 6 Rungsak Khakum of Thailand.
The two 10-round bouts will be support with 40 other exciting bouts as curtain raisers.
Fabian said the December 1 boxing bouts in this city will be covered by Solar Sports and will be aired in television, both local and cable channels.
For Zamboanga’s very own Canoy, it will be his first time to be fitted against a foreign fighter in a 10-round bout in his professional boxing career.
He gained fame in his younger days as an amateur boxer when he reaped many medals in international campaigns.
