Police eye illegal drugs in Zambo Sur gun attack
By Bong Garcia

THE police are inclined to believe that the motive behind the incidence of gun attack in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, which resulted in the death of a person and the wounding of another, is related to the illegal drugs trade.

A belated report from the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office disclosed that the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Saturday along Zamora Street in Barangay Malolo-oy, Molave town.

The report identified the fatality as Mario Montealto. Wounded was a store owner named Nelson Raagas.

The report said the victims were having a conversation in the store of Raagas while Montealto was drinking a bottle of beverage when attacked by three men riding tandem on a single motorcycle.

One of the three men shot them with the use of a caliber .45 pistol without any provocation when they stopped at the store of Raagas.

The perpetrators fled aboard the single motorcycle with and are the subject of police investigation and manhunt operation.

Montealto was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Igano Community Hospital where the victims were rushed for treatment, according to the report.

However, the police did not elaborate further why they are inclined to believe that the incident is drug-related.
