City sponsored Pascua activities culminate

THE City Government sponsored activities for the 2007 Pascua na Zamboanga were culminated Sunday, but the revelry continues as private groups have slated other activities that are said to end after the advent season.

Mayor Celso Lobregat has expressed gratitude to participants in the Inter-barangay Christmas Landmark competition, best dressed in Santa costume competition, Canciones de Pascua 2007 and the open lantern contest held the past weeks.

He said the participants showed enthusiasm and sportsmanship during the competitions making the 2007 Pascua na Zamboanga a huge success.

The City Government, through the City Tourism Division under the Office of the Mayor, allocated over P200,000 for the prizes in the different competitions.

Barangay Boalan topped the inter-barangay landmark competition with P50,000 cash prize. Second was Sta. Maria barangay with P40,000; third was Lunzuran barangay with P30,000; San Roque barangay with P20,000 and Cabatangan barangay ranked fifth with P10,000.

The competition pertained to Christmas symbols such as Christmas tree, Belen and decorative lights.

Twenty elementary school students from different public and private schools in the city participated in the Best Dressed in Santa Claus costume competition held at the La Vista del Mar last December 12. The first prizewinner received P6,000; the second prizewinner got P5,000; the third prize was P4,000; fourth prize was P3,000 and fifth prize was P2,000.

The winners were Clude Kent Enriquez - first place; Angelica Celine Fuertes - second place; Angelo Salayog - third place; Anne Julia Limbo - fourth place; and Jediah Kent Marcos Tagud - fifth place.

The Canciones de Pascua was a Christmas Choral competition in chabavano, involving Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councils in the city. First place went to the Canelar SK with P10,000 cash prize; second place went to the SK of Barangay Guiwan with a cash prize of P7,000; third place was the SK of Barangay Tumaga with P5,000 and fourth place was the SK of Barangay San Jose Gusu with P3,000.

The open lantern competition meantime was a test of the participants' ingenuity and craftsmanship. It was open to all except city government officials and employees. The entry of Erwin Enriquez of Culianan was adjudged first with a cash prize of P10,000; the entry of Arnel Palacio of Camino Nuevo ranked second with P7,000 cash prize and third was the entry of Ronaldo Quibilan of Victoria with P5,000 cash prize. Fourth placer was the entry of Jose Sontillanosa with P3,000 cash prize and fifth placer was the entry of Romeo de la Cruz of Mampang with a cash prize of P2,000.

Other ongoing activities in line with the Pascua na Zamboanga 2007 is the Christmas night market at the La Vista del Mar and the afternoon shows at the Plaza Pershing. (Sheila Covarrubias)
