Thursday, April 17, 2008 Business not affected by bombings
REGIONAL Development Council (RDC) co-chairman Arsenio Gonzalez said last Sunday's bombings did not affect the business climate of Zamboanga City.
Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) exploded last Sunday morning one after the other at the Immaculate Concepcion Metropolitan Cathedral Church at La Purisima Street and in front of a building that houses a bank and a government office at Veterans Avenue, this city.
Gonzalez explained the bombings have no effect since threats and act of terrorism is already part of the people's lives. He also said that this is a global problem and not an exclusive problem of Zamboanga City.
He, however, said if there is a need for the business sector and local government to do some measures like damage control to maintain Zamboanga City's business climate, "they will do it."
He said what the people should do to prevent such kind of incident is to join efforts and not "let the terrorists sow fear."
"This problem (threats and terrorism) is not only of the authorities but of everybody," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez is the president and general manager of A.L. Gonzalez and Sons Inc., the distributor of Petron liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Zamboanga City for the past 40 years. (BPG)
