Sick elderly rescued from burning home

CONCERNED residents have rescued a sick octogenarian from a burning home at Arcillas Compound in the village of Upper Calarian, west of this city.

Two houses were razed to the ground when a fire broke out shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday, an official of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) disclosed.

Chief Inspector Jaime Ramirez, city fire marshal disclosed that the fire started at the home of Loreta Montojo, 82 and rapidly spread thus razing also to the ground the house of Vincent Penionez.

Both house were single floors and made of light materials.

Ramirez said the fire victims' neighbors rushed to the rescue of Montojo, who is reportedly sick, before the house engulfed her house.

He said initial investigation disclosed that the origin of the fire was an unattended lighted candle at the kitchen of the Montojo.

The estimated damaged to property is P100,000. No one was reported killed or hurt during the incident, Ramirez said. (Lordhan C. Cruz/BPG)
