Friday, May 23, 2008 Flashflood hit coastal village
A HOUSE was destroyed while two others were partially damaged when a flashflood hit Tuesday an eastern coast village of Zamboanga City.
Reports reaching the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) disclosed that the flashflood occurred when the Calibato River in Sangali village swelled following continuous downpour.
The village officials of Sangali headed by Oswaldo Felix have yet to submit a detailed report of the incident to the City Social Welfare Office.
Fortunately, there were no reports of deaths or injury during the incident.
Alerted residents staying close to Calibato River evacuated to the elementary school of Sangali village where they stayed until the water subsided.
As of Wednesday, the evacuees returned to their respective homes when the water level returned to normal.
The City Government is set to give assistance to the families whose houses were destroyed and partially damaged.
Earlier, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo has warned residents in low-lying areas against occurrence of flash floods citing more tropical storm are entering the Philippines area of responsibility. (Lordhan C. Cruz/BPG)
