Fiesta at Kilometer 21 La Paz a success
THE fiesta at kilometer 21 at the Zamboanga Freeport Highlands Park, at Upper, La Paz, held last May 25 was a success.
Some 80 individuals attended the event, and among them were Mayor Celso L. Lobregat and Councilor Gerky Valesco, chairman of Committee on Tourism, Culture and Arts and Foreign Relations; Vicente Lim, president of the local tourism association; and Georgina Yu, chairman and administrator of Zambo Ecozone and Freeport Authority.

The "Little Baguio of Zamboanga City," which is a major attraction, boasts of cool climate, a mountain-view scenery, fresh air and foggy atmosphere, Carabao rides, an agro-farm and market that sells native wine called "tuba", fresh vegetable produce and other native delicacies, and the Nancy Falls, which is just five kilometers from the Highlands Base Camp.
The highlight of the event was the Eco-Trekking Adventure, which comprises of a light course and a medium course. The light course, approximately an hour trail for 1.5 kilometer was a nature walk passing through the forest and river creek, identifying different plants & trees and visit to the agro-farm.
The medium course, approximately a three-hour trail for 3.1 kilometer, was a climb uphill and downhill, crossing rivers to the Maria Clara Falls and a short rappelling.
The event was organized by the Tourism Association of Zamboanga, in cooperation with Zambo Ecozone, the Zamboanga Ecozone Mountaineers (Team Kaguang), Office of the City Mayor, Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Office 9, and Zamboanga City Tourism Office. (Paul Marquez/CO)
