DepEd-Neap holds seminar for low-performance schools

THE Department of Education (DepEd), in association with the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (Neap), launches a Basic Training Course on School Based Management called "Project Turn Around" to combat the alarming rate of low-performance schools in the country.

Dr. Nemia Manlapaz, project manager of the Project Turn Around, said because of the alarming rate of low performance schools n the nation, DepEd has to hold in abeyance all other projects to make way for Project Turn Around, which is spearheaded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Education Secretary Jeslie Lapuz.

Low performance schools were categorized as having low mean performance score based on the National Aptitude Test (NAT).

Manlapaz said: "the National Educators Academy of the Philippines, which is the training arm of the Department of Education, prioritized this program. We are supposed to train 1,898 elementary school heads and 265 secondary school heads all over the Philippines."

There are 183 participants from different elementary schools from Western Mindanao and the Muslim autonomous region.

The seminar is a four-day affair that started on May 24. Manlapaz said it was the last batch for the elementary division. (Paul Marquez/CO)
