5 killed, 5 wounded in ambush

FIVE people were killed while five others were wounded in an ambush in one of the coastal towns in the province of Lanao del Norte.

A police official said the incident took place around 5 p.m. Sunday in the town of Linamon.

The victims were returning home to Magsaysay town in Lanao del Norte coming from a picnic in Iligan City when ambushed by unidentified gunmen.

The victims were all relatives of Magsaysay, Lanao del Norte Mayor Haironi Omar, the police reported.

Senior Superintendent Mangarun Angod, Lanao del Norte police director, said over a local radio station that the driver was most likely hit during the ambush, citing the vehicle fell into a ravine during the incident.

Angod said there were around eight to 10 people that staged the ambush.

He said investigation continue to unmask the suspects and the motive behind the incident.
