DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Office chief Rolando Acuña has urged the public to file formal complaints against motorcycle accessories outlets taking advantage in selling the crash helmet at exorbitant price.
Acuña made the call following reports that storeowners have started increasing the selling price of crash helmet following the pronouncement of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in implementing Administrative Order (AO) 2008-015 in Zamboanga City.
The AO, which the LTO will implement, starting December, requires not only drivers of motorcycles but to include the back riders to wear crash helmet.
Some of the storeowners have reportedly jack-up the price of crash helmet from P150 to as high as P250 each for an open-face helmet.
Acuña said they could not monitor the sale of crash helmet on stores since they don't have its official price list.
However, he said that through official complaint filed in his office, they could investigate and slap penalty on storeowners found to be selling crash helmet at exorbitant price.
Acuña said that his office would not hesitate to slap penalty on those found guilty of the complaint. (Bong Garcia)
