Saturday, December 20, 2008 2 NPA fronts in Zamboanga about to collapse By Bong Garcia
THE military's anti-insurgency campaign is gaining headway as the two existing New People's Army (NPA) fronts are on the verge of collapse, an army official said.
Lieutenant General Nelson Allaga, chief of the Western Mindanao Command's (Westmincom), said the continuous anti-insurgency campaign of the military has diminished the strength of the two NPA fronts in Zamboanga del Norte province.
The two NPA front committees -- Kara and Joji -- are operating close to the boundary of Zamboanga del Sur province.
"They are almost already dismantled. I-ilan ng lang yong tao nila," said Allaga, adding that a total of 52 NPA rebels were neutralized by his command since January this year.
Allaga said the anti-insurgency campaign will continue until the two NPA fronts in the region will be completely dismantled.
The Westmincom chief assured the public that his command is continuously doing its duty to eliminate all forms of lawless groups within its area of responsibility.
