THE Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has tightened the security in the metropolis following the bombings in Iligan City, which killed three people and injured 48 more.
Senior Superintendent Mario Yanga said that Zamboanga City has been a target of bombings based on intelligence reports of various law enforcement agencies.
Yanga said among the possible targets of terrorist attacks are places of worship and commercial centers in downtown Zamboanga City.
ZVPO has added three new patrol beats after receiving its additional personnel from the Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office (ZPPO).
Uniformed personnel are also deployed on a bus terminal in Guiwan village to secure passenger going and leaving the city.
Around 8 p.m. Thursday night, the explosive ordnance demolition (EOD) of the police has conducted disruption procedure in an abandoned 20-liter container found along Campaner Street in the downtown area.
Based on the documents recovered, the police learned that the container came from a construction firm in Iligan City, the site of Thursday's twin bombings, and consigned to a woman in the village of Canelar.
Upon verification, Yanga said authorities found that the container's content is a not a component for making bombs.
Yanga also met with all of his 11 police precinct commanders Friday. (Bong Garcia)
