Sunday, December 21, 2008 Cracker dealers foresee bleak sales
LOCAL businessmen who are licensed dealers of firecrackers and pyrotechnics foresee a bleak sale this year amid the economic crisis the country is facing.
Alfredo Bangayan, one of the licensed firecrackers and pyrotechnics dealers in Zamboanga City, said they foresee that the sale will drop to as low as 40 to 50 percent this year.
Bangayan said it is but natural for the people to give a priority budget for food during the celebration of the Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Aside from the financial crisis, he said another factor that may contribute to low sales is the increase in the prices of firecrackers and pyrotechnic.
The price increase stemmed from the growth in the freight cost in shipping the products to Zamboanga City, Bangayan said.
He advised the public to only buy genuine-made firecrackers and pyrotechnics to avoid accidents during the New Year's revelry. (Bong Garcia)
