Thursday, January 15, 2009 Transco repair works delayed
EFFORTS of National Transmission Corporation (Transco) to re-energize Wednesday the entire Western Mindanao and two other Mindanao provinces has been snagged amid natural hindrance.
Transco department manager for Lanao del Norte Avelino Dawis, who is leading the repair works, said Wednesday they were stranded in the village of Lapayan, Kauswagan town.
Dawis said they could not cross the bridge to ferry the rest of the equipment needed to complete the repair works as the Lapayan River overflowed, making the bridge inaccessible.
Western Mindanao and two provinces of Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte were plunged into darkness after rebels, believed to be followers of Abdulrahman Macapaar alias Commander Bravo, toppled down a Transco pylon using improvised bombs in the village of Tingin-Tingin, Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte.
Since Saturday, Western Mindanao, Misamis Occidental and a large part of Lanao del Norte have been disconnected from Transco's main power grid.
Dawis said they have to install three conductors and one overhead wire to be able to re-energize Western Mindanao and the province of Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte.
Dawis said they are waiting for the flood to subside so they can proceed to the worksite and complete the repair works.
Dawis hopes to complete the repairs before the weekend.
They have yet to determine the estimate of damage brought about by the bombing of the pylon, he said. (Bong Garcia)
