A FILIPINO-American scientist urged youths to do their part in addressing environmental concerns.
Dr. Rico Cruz, an inventor and bio-fuel expert from Maasin City, said there are different ways that young individuals can go “green” in their lifestyles.
Cruz manages the laboratory and biological service program of the Department of Science and Engineering-Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Pendleton, Oregon, USA, for the last eight years.
He said young people can organize themselves to form a youth ecological society or a similar organization that helps protect, conserve, and even enhance the environment through proactive activities.
He said youths could initiate regular environmental activities including but not limited to adoption of public roads, beaches, among others, for their clean-up drives.
Cruz likewise urged youths to practice small acts for the environment like picking up garbage and planting of trees and other plants that require less maintenance.
He also said parents and teachers should immerse their young children into community gatherings that are directed at preserving the environment. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
