THE Region Eight Administrators League (Real) joined the administration’s drive on transparency and good governance by raising the understanding of its members on the anti-corruption campaign.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Regional Director and Real president Imelda Laceras said they recently held a seminar participated by 123 league members with Deputy Ombudsman for Visayas Pelagio Apostol as the keynote speaker.

“This is to support the President’s commitment to deliver the social contract with the Filipino people. Within his term, he wants to minimize poverty and corruption. People will not go directly to President Aquino to seek services but through the regional offices and local government units,” Laceras said.

After the deputy ombudsman’s message, Rev. Fr. Albert Alejo discussed “Beyond Honesty: Integrity Reflections for Public Officials.” His topic was a call for public officials to self-reflection and renewal of pledge to public service.

The seminar, held on June 15 in Ormoc City, was co-sponsored by the Ormoc City Government led by Mayor Eric Codilla.

“We have a very big role to play to put the President’s promise into action by aligning this in our own programs and activities,” Laceras added.

The seminar is part of Real’s advocacy on the five key result areas of the present administration.

“Everyone is susceptible to shortcomings but if we are aware of what we need to do, there will be reforms,” Laceras said.

Starting this year, Laceras said they are expanding their membership to include assistant regional directors, heads of operating units such as division superintendents of the Department of Education and district engineers of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Just this year, about 60 officials were inducted as new Real members. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
