Leyte Government to provide water systems in 2 towns

THE Provincial Government of Leyte pledged to provide water systems to far-flung villages in Dagami and Santa Fe towns.
In his latest round of “Icot-Icot ha Barangay,” Governor Jericho Petilla said although some municipalities and barangays in Leyte have access to potable drinking water, there are still barangays in far-flung areas that have no access to it.
Leyte is composed of 41 municipalities and three cities.
Petilla said the province is set to receive funds from President Benigno Aquino III on his priority water and sanitation project all over the country.
The President earlier created an inter-agency committee to create a master plan for the water sector after learning that at least 30 different government agencies have been separately undertaking activities related to water and addressing water needs in various ways.
The President said he wanted to integrate the management of water resources, as he wants 86 percent of Filipinos to have access to potable water before his term ends in 2016.
Governor Petilla said the water system project for particular areas in Leyte is also being pushed in part to combat infectious and water-borne diseases.
Constructing safe water systems in all communities, especially those in low-lying areas and river towns, will help maintain “better health” among the people, he said.
Villages in Dagami town and the town proper itself sits on a low-lying area.
The governor also said that he is hoping the transmission pipes installation project of the Leyte Metropolitan Water District will be finished within the year.
The project, he said, aims to the water supply in Tacloban City, Leyte province’s capital. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
