Water district improves system in Tacloban

THE Leyte Metropolitan Water District (LMWD) said it was able to improve the water supply in the city by utilizing the interconnection it undertook at Alacsawan Point along the national highway in Palo, Leyte.
Maria Teresa Pascua, LMWD information officer, said this improvement is only about a quarter of what it intends to supply to the city once the expansion project is completed.
”The interconnection is only a part of the whole expansion program for the city. It is noted that many parts of the city is still experiencing low water supply or none at all. We were only able to utilize a small source of water at our plant site in Tingib, Pastrana, Leyte and only an interconnection to our present system would make this little improvement possible,” Pascua said.
She added the supply may reduce at anytime depending on the weather condition at their plant or change of pattern in the use of water.
“The need to continue our pipe installation activities to the city is necessary to fully utilize the production output of the new treatment plant that is still under construction,” Pascua said.
She added that other than the pipeline and treatment facility projects, LMWD still needs to rehabilitate its distribution and service lines in the city for a more efficient water supply to water concessionaires. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
