LOCAL information and communications technology (ICT) stakeholders gathered Tuesday for a conference that will raise their capability to carry out a roadmap, one of the priorities under the regional development framework.

In a statement, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Director Edgardo Esperancilla said the ICT conference and preparatory workshop will help the rising local stakeholders particularly those in the private sector to outline and execute ways that will help attain their readiness and competitiveness.

“This is to empower local private sector stakeholders as a reliable partner of the government in implementing strategies to develop the ICT-Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) industry in the local community,” Esperancilla said.

The gathering was conducted in partnership with the ICT Office of the DOST, National ICT Confederations of the Philippines, and Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for ICT.

Officials from other ICT councils are expected to share their experiences and best practices on how they helped grow the industry in their respective cities and provinces.

ICT was tagged as one of the region’s economic growth driver due to the presence of expansion-ready Leyte ICT Park, existence of 52 higher education institutions and 75 government-accredited training centers offering ICT courses, and availability of infrastructure facilities that will support the industry.
