Parents-teachers officers tender mass resignations

ELECTED officers of the General Parents Teachers Association (GPTA) of the Guiuan East Central School have resigned for an alleged major disagreement with the school officials.
Edwin Bautista, GPTA president, stepped down before the scheduled induction of GPTA and homeroom officers on August 18 and after several meetings with other association officials.
In his statement, Bautista said due to some personal reasons he could not perform his function as president of the organization, thus relinquishing his post to the vice-president, Crispin Colandog.
Colandog, on the other hand, issued a letter to the parents and teachers of Guiuan East Central School informing them of the resignation of the entire GPTA officers who were elected on August 16.
The officers said they are in disagreement with the school administration over some major decisions concerning activities related to the organization.
“The August 18 induction of officers did not have consensus with the school administration. We believe the parents should have a major say in all decisions concerning the association,” Bautista said.
Leyte Samar Daily Express tried to reach the school principal, Melchor Lacdao, and district supervisor Lourdes Ecle but to no avail.
“The mass resignation of GPTA officials was unprecedented in the entire region but we hope the teachers and school administrators would understand our move,” Bautista said. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
