Prison cells in Eastern Visayas ‘need improvement’

THE prison cells in Eastern Visayas region are not organized, an official of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) regional office said.
BJMP regional chaplain Nentor Caber asked all local chief executives to support the management in addressing this problem.
“Since our prison cells here need repair and improvement, we ask our local chief executives to help us deal on this matter,” Caber said.
The official, on the other hand, revealed that Western Visayas has the most beautiful and organized cells nationwide.
Caber discussed that while the BJMP joins on the 18th National Crime Prevention celebration with the theme “Sa Crime prevention, May Magagawa Ako,” he said that every member of the community has a great role to play in keeping their lives safe.
With regards to the safe keeping of the inmates, he said the management do not allow any media (particularly those who are from the television), to conduct on camera interviews.
But Caber assured that he would be encouraging all jail wardens in the region to create good media relations. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
