Nurses, jobseekers warned not to rely on social media for job abroad

FILIPINO workers, especially nurses, were warned not to rely on social media to land a job abroad.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Saturday alerted that “Facebook account named Drake Personnel Philippines, which is used to recruit Filipino nurses and other medical professionals, has no valid license from the POEA and is not allowed to recruit or deploy Filipino workers overseas.”
In a statement, POEA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac informed that United Kingdom (UK) is not actively hiring Filipino nurses, warning jobseekers to be wary of supposed vacancies advertised through social media networks.
Based on the information from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polo) in London, Cacdac added there is no active hiring of nurses in UK at present though there were a few NHS Trusts and care homes that were able to hire nurses and senior careers these past months.
Cacdac added that “except for a few, old job orders in our accreditation database, the POEA has not received nor approved fresh JOs for nurses from UK employers.”
POEA advised that to avoid being duped by illegal recruiters, Filipino applicants desiring to work in the United Kingdom may visit
http://ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas-immigration/working/ for useful information about working in the UK and how to get visas for various work categories.
To check whether a UK employer is allowed to sponsor migrant workers, applicants may browse http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/employersandspon.... (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
