Tourism office steps up info drive

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) is stepping up information drive in preparation for the World Tourism Day celebration on 27 September.
The annual World Tourism Day aims to foster awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. It highlights the contribution the tourism sector.
The activity is dubbed “Tourism and Sustainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development.”
“The activity is generally advocacy. We joined various activities to advocate culture and tourism. We have been discussing values that we need to nurture so we can be known as champion of tourism,” said DOT Eastern Visayas Director Karina Rosa Tiopes.
Tiopes conducted lectures in various schools and other series of gatherings were held in different areas to reorient tourism establishments on statistics.
The activities are also part of the National Tourism Week, which will run from September 21 to 27, 2012.
In Eastern Visayas, one of the highlights of the celebration is the launching of regional tourism sectoral plan in time with the Region Eight Administrator’s League assembly next week. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
