UNIDENTIFIED suspects ransacked the municipal treasurer’s office of Tanauan, Leyte over the weekend.
Combined forces of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine National Police (PNP) are still conducting a thorough probe to identify the suspects who carted away about P200,000 to P300,000, said Tanauan Mayor Agapito Pagayanan Jr.
He said the municipal officials and treasurer’s office personnel are also finding out if there were stolen documents.
The stolen money was part of the Friday’s collection of the office. It was placed at a vault inside the office, said Pagayanan.
The mayor believes that the suspects had an idea of where the money was placed as they easily opened the vault.
Pagayanan said there were no signs that the suspects had difficulty looking for the vault key or any possible PIN number that would help them open the vault, citing there were no traces of scattered items.
“Things inside the municipal treasurer’s office were not disarranged, that’s the reason why we can say that the suspects knew what they were looking for,” he said.
“And, it seems that the place was so familiar to the suspects. It is possible that he knew the number combination of the vault or the PIN or key of it was left inside the office,” Pagayanan added.
Employees of the treasurer’s office noticed that the office padlock was already destroyed last Monday morning. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
