ORMOC CITY – “As of right now, we are going there,” this was the answer of Mayor Eric Codilla when asked if he would be running for district representative position in the 2013 election.
Codilla is now on his last term as City Mayor of Ormoc. Although he did not make a categorical statement, it was said that he would be running against the incumbent district representative.
Meanwhile, actor Richard Gomez is said to run for the mayoralty seat in the next year’s election and already made a public statement about his plan early this year.
If the mayor continues his plan to run for the congressional seat, he will be up-against incumbent Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez (4th District) who is aligned with the Liberal Party of President Benigno Aquino III.
Codilla is under the Lakas Party of former president and Pampanga District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Torres-Gomez had been open to public that she’ll be seeking for re-election in the congressional seat.
To recall, it was her husband actor Richard Gomez who was supposed to run for the congressional seat. However, he was disqualified due to his residency.
Torres-Gomez filed her candidacy after the Comelec en banc junked the petition of her husband to reconsider its earlier decision disqualifying him from the congressional race in the province of Leyte.
Torres-Gomez defeated Mayor Codilla’s father in said election, but she was challenged with a complaint at the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal which later on made a decision in her favor. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
