WINNING candidates of the recently held May 13 midterm elections in Leyte province will have a mass oath taking in June 28, according to Vice Governor-elect Carlo Loreto.

Loreto said the venue will be at the newly constructed Leyte Convention Center, located at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo town.

“All those who won in the recent election from governor, vice governor, board members, mayors, vice mayors and councilors no matter what their political affiliations are, are welcome to join,” Loreto added.

Aside from Loreto, also joining the oath taking are Governor-elect Leopoldo Dominico Petilla (Liberal Party), entire members of the Provincial Board from the first to fifth district, Carigara Mayor Eduardo Ong (Nationalist People’s Coalition), Dagami Mayor Abundio Delusa (NPC), Isabel Mayor Marcos Gregorio Cerillo (NPC), Tabango Mayor Ma. Corazon Remandaban (United Nationalist Alliance), Tanauan Mayor Pelagio Tecson (UNA), Albuera Mayor Ramon De La Cerna (Independent), Santa Fe Mayor Oscar Monteza, and Kananga Mayor Elmer Codilla (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino).

“We would be expecting 100 percent attendance because this would mean lesser expense for the local government units since it is the province who will shoulder all expenses for the oath taking,” Loreto said.

“This is also a time for them to talk with each other so they could serve their constituents better and let go of politics since election is already over,” Loreto added.

The oath taking is a practice in the province since the administration of former Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla, who is now the Secretary of Department of Energy (DOE).

“During the oath taking, elected officials need to present the photocopy of their proclamation to be presented at the secretariat during registration to ensure that after their oath taking, the documents are already signed by those who will lead the oath taking ceremony,” Loreto explained.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is expected to lead the ceremony according to Loreto, but this has to be confirmed yet with the Office of the Governor.

Outgoing Leyte Governor Mimiette Bagulaya will also take her oath as a board member of Leyte’s third district. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
