50 cops hone probe skills-A A +A

CAMP KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte – The Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas has trained 50 policemen to equip them with competent investigation skills for increased crime solution efficiency and high conviction rate.
“The conviction of suspects and not merely the identification and filing of cases should be the yardstick in measuring the efficiency and effectiveness of our investigation of crime incidents,” said Police Chief Superintendent Elmer Soria, police regional director, during opening of the Criminal Investigation Course (CIC) Friday.
In 2010, Soria said a review on the profile of police investigators nationwide uncovered the apparent lack of competent and effective field investigators, who possess the skills and the right attitude to work on a case and pursue it until resolved by the courts.
“This handicap can be best addressed with the provision of adequate, relevant investigation training programs designed to provide desired learning competencies and investigative proficiency among police investigators,” he added.
The investigator-trainees will be undergoing a six-week course divided into four significant modules on General Subjects, Laws/Jurisprudence, Investigative Procedures, and Court Practices.
Soria said the qualified team of instructors were acknowledged and recognized experts in their fields of specialization such as those coming from the academe, scene-of-the-crime operations (Soco), and courts, will handle the training.
“We are on the threshold of modern criminal investigation. This training will serve as a weapon to our investigator not only in enhancing their skills but also in coping up with the sophisticated techniques being employed by criminals nowadays,” Soria added. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
