FOURTEEN lawmakers in Eastern Visayas already received their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) for this year before President Benigno Aquino III proclaimed PDAF’s abolition.
Receiving P35 million each were Representatives Ferdinand Martin Romualdez (Leyte, 1st district), Sergio Apostol (Leyte, 2nd district), Andres Salvacion (Leyte, 3rd district), Lucy Torres-Gomez (Leyte, 4th district), Rogelio Espina (Biliran), Roger Mercado (Southern Leyte), Neil Benedict Montejo (An Waray), Mel Senen Sarmiento (Samar, 1st district), Milagrosa Tan (Samar, 2nd district), and Raul Daza (Northern Samar, 1st district).
Receiving higher allocations were Northern Samar second district Representative Emil Ong with P60.95 million, Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone with P55.72 million, Leyte fifth district Representative Jose Carlos Cari with P55 million.
Former representatives Raul Daza of Northern Samar’s first district and Florencio Noel of the An Waray party-list received the lowest fund at P15 million each.
The list of the 14 congressmen, who received their PDAF or pork barrel, was posted by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) in its website.
The DBM has no record of releases for congressmen who started their first terms in the 16th congress like Northern Samar first district Representative Harlin Abayon and Southern Leyte Representative Damian Mercado.
Records also showed that the earliest PDAF release was on January 21 and the latest was on August 2. The funds were given to hospitals, national government agencies and local government units (LGUs).
President Benigno Aquino III has ordered the abolition of PDAF last week amid the P10-billion pork barrel scam allegedly initiated by Janet Lim-Napoles, who channeled the funds through fake non-government organizations (NGOs). (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
