PALO, Leyte -- A son of a city councilor in Catbalogan and a former member of the Philippine Army were arrested after they were caught selling drugs recently.
Arrested Tuesday afternoon was 40-year-old Roel Arcales, son of Catbalogan City Councilor Ernesto Arcales. The soldier, identified as Anthonie Lou Bugal, 35, was nabbed Wednesday morning.
Arcales and Bugal were arrested by the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas after they sold “shabu” to a police agent, said PRO Regional Director Elmer Soria.
Soria said the two were arrested at GV Hotel along Rizal Avenue in Catbalogan. Police also confiscated suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” several drug paraphernalia, and a.45 caliber pistol.
Police recovered from Arcales one big heat-sealed plastic sachet containing suspected “shabu” granules with a street value of P4,000.
Also confiscated from the suspects were 16 heat-sealed plastic sachet containing shabu weighing some four grams worth P20,000 and four pieces of P1,000 bills used as buy-bust money.
Several drug paraphernalia, including one unit Diamond Model 500 digital weighing scale, improvised tooters, lighters, two scissors, empty sachets, and aluminum foils, were also confiscated.
One .45 caliber Colt pistol with two magazines loaded with six ammunitions each and two unit Samsung mobile phones were also seized by the police.
The confiscated items were brought to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office in Eastern Visayas for examination, while Arcales and Bugal were detained at the lock-up cell of Catbalogan City Police Station.
“If the court finds them guilty violating the law, then let the axe fall where it may,” Soria said, adding that cases for violation of the illegal drugs law were filed against the suspects, aside from illegal possession of firearms charges. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
