153 families evacuated from tent cities in Guiuan due to Agaton

TACLOBAN CITY -- The local government of Guiuan in Eastern Samar has evacuated 153 families temporarily residing at the tent city after strong winds brought about by tropical storm Agaton destroyed their temporary shelters.

The local disaster risk reduction management council (DRRMC) report submitted to the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) here said that the affected families are now staying at the Naputo Building and Eastern Samar State University (ESSU).

No typhoon signal was hoisted over Guiuan but heavy rains and strong winds are being experienced in the locality.

The OCD and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) here chaired by acting regional director Rey Gozon also advised the public to take necessary action as storm signal number 1 has been hoisted over Southern Leyte.

The tropical storm brought in moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms in the region. (PNA)
