HEAVY rains over the weekend failed to dampen the presentation of participating festivals during the 2014 Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals held at the Leyte Sports Development Center (LSDC) in Tacloban City.

Mayor Remedios Petilla, executive chairperson of Pintados-Kasadyaan, said they are happy with the turnout of the event.

"I feel that this is a blessing for us because we manage to go on even with the heavy rain and people stays with us," said Petilla.

Organizers estimated more than 10,000 crowd gathered at the LSDC to watch the presentation.

"If only the bleachers are already fixed. If there are roof and we are able to parade, there may be more crowd," said Eugene Tan, Pintados Foundation president.

Five festival contingents, all guest performers, showcased their street dance and ritual presentation. They included the Maskara Festival of Bacolod City; Tribu Lumad Basakanon of Cebu's Sinulog Festival; Kawayan-Banigan Festival; Uway Festival of Basey, Samar; and Mayaw-mayaw Fstival of Pinabacdao, Samar.

Six festival contingents from Tacloban City participated in the Pintados ritual presentation while six groups joined as merrymakers.

The best in merrymaking contingents brought home cash prizes to include P30,000 for first placer - Red Cross-Leyte chapter; P20,000 for second placer - Leyte Normal University; and P10,000 for third placer - St. Paul’s School of Business and Law.

The Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival started with a mass officiated by Msgr. Ramon Aquilos and Rev. Fr. Alvin Nicolasora.

"We hope to have a better presentation next year and to invite again our guest contingents from other region," said Petilla.

The occasion was graced by Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla and local officials led by Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla. (PNA)
