ORMOC CITY, Leyte -– Lopez-led Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the country’s leading geothermal power producer, was once again named as the city’s "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the City Government and the local business sector.

This is the fourth time for EDC to receive the award for large business/manufacturing category. This year, EDC’s sister company, Therma Prime, bagged the award under the service category.

Mayor Richard Gomez and Ormoc City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. president Jude Abenoja handed over on Monday the plaque of recognition to Erwin Magallanes, EDC’s manager for community partnerships in Leyte, during a ceremony at the city hall.

“We are honored to receive this recognition. This affirms the value of our humble contribution to the local economy and communities. This will serve as an inspiration and motivation for us to continuously improve our CSR (corporate social responsibility) projects,” Magallanes said.

Emilio Tingson, city business permits and licensing office chief, said they recognize the remarkable contribution of the business sector towards the economy, thus giving them recognition every year.

EDC, operator of the world’s second largest wet steam field, was cited for its significant contribution to the local economy and its CSR that help alleviate the lives of the people in its host communities.

EDC owns and operates the 701-megawatt Leyte Geothermal Power Field whose power plants are based in this city and Kananga town. (PNA)
