Globe brings TM Football Para sa Bayan to Tacloban

Tuesday, July 04, 2017

IN ITS search for talented, young football players in rural and urban poor communities across the Philippines who will get a chance to train both locally and abroad, Globe Telecom brings TM Football Para sa Bayan (TM FPSB) to Tacloban City where over 100 aspiring football players are expected to participate.

TM FPSB is a component of a larger sports program of Globe for the country that shows the company’s commitment to help uplift the lives of the Filipino youth through sports.

For the second year, TM FPSB is being held in partnership with Malaysian entertainment powerhouse Astro and its over-the-top video services firm Tribe Philippines.

Globe has also tapped select grassroots football organizations to be part of the program.

“TM, being a brand for the youth, understands the power of sports to instill the importance of having good values and a good education among children and young adults. By reaching out to kids, especially those from the marginalized sector of our society, we would be able to help them develop their skills, provide them with a platform to showcase their talents, and bring them closer to their dreams,” said Ray Guinoo, TM Portfolio and Brand head.

The Tacloban leg is in partnership with FundLife International, a locally-based non-profit organization that created Football for Life (F4L), an innovative and dynamic approach that could adapt and react to the real-time needs of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) survivor-children through organized and regularly-scheduled play sessions.

Tacloban City is among the four areas being tapped by Globe for its grassroots football program this year. The others are Metro Manila; Vigan, Ilocos Sur; and San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

TM FPSB is looking at creating two talent pools -- one for under 12 (U12) years old and another for under 14 (U14) through Globe-sponsored tournaments.

The top 12 from each group will train with coaches from Green Archers United under the Philippine Football Federation.

Just like last year, the best players in the U12 division will have a chance to undergo training with Astro Kem Bola and FC Barcelona in Malaysia and Spain late this year.

Astro Kem Bola, a partner of Globe, will conduct an advanced training program in Kuala Lumpur for all qualifiers from the Philippines, Singapore, and Malaysia. Selected top players from the advanced camp will then fly to Europe for two weeks of professional football training with FC Barcelona. Those in the U14 category will also receive the opportunity to train with international football coaches who will be flown in to Manila by Globe.

Selection of the best players will not only be based on talent but also on other criteria such a teamwork; discipline, behavior and sportsmanship; communication on and off the pitch; positive attitude towards teammates, volunteers, and coaches; ability to listen to instructions; and good personality.
