BIR's abatement program to start in October-A A +A

TACLOBAN CITY -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) regional office has issued its latest guideline of abatement program, which will take effect on October 6, 2010.
The abatement program serves as the top punishment for the tax evaders and at the same time encourage voluntary compliance with the internal revenue tax laws.
The abatement program offers the delinquent taxpayers a relief from 25 percent surcharges of compromised properties. Taxpayers will have to amend their tax returns and pay the corresponding tax with a 20 percent interest.
The program also implements and strengthens the Run After Tax Evaders to investigate criminal violations of tax payers under the National Revenue Code of 1997.
The said program covers all types of taxes like real estate taxes, donors, and final withholding taxes, expanded and documentary taxes. However, the said program is only available to those tax payers who are not subject in any complaint and have not yet received any notice from BIR.
Benjamin Mari, Chief Revenue Officer II of BIR- Eastern Visayas, said that taxpayers who have the willingness to rectify their tax returns previously filed and paid their taxes.(Leyte Samar Daily Express)
