Coco oil exports continue to decline

PALO, Leyte – Coconut oil exports from the second largest coconut-producing region in the country dropped three times as of September, signaling a continued decline in total shipments of this commodity towards the end of the year.

The regional office of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) said in its report released this week that Eastern Visayas’ coco oil exports totaled 101,758 metric tons (MT) in the first three quarters of the year, about 158 percent less than the 190,720 MT shipped out in the same period last year.

Isafi to be implemented in Biliran, Southern Leyte

Wilson Cerbito, UEGIS-National Farmers Registry System-Isafi project manager, said, during the opening program of the Isafi Implementing Manual of Operations and GPS Training held at Leyte Park Resort Hotel, the DA-Planning Service-Public Investment Program Division suggested Isafi to put into service in other provinces of Biliran and Southern Leyte for an outstanding implementation of it in Leyte.

Army receives 5 rubber boats

PALO, Leyte -- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) turned over Thursday five rubber boats to the Philippine Army in Eastern Visayas to be used for rescue operations during disasters.

Undersecretary Benito Ramos of the OCD said that the rubber boats, donated to the country by the World Food Programme-Philippines (WFP), would help boost the rescue capability of the Army during their rescue operations.

Councilor calls for 'entrance fee' collection suspension

COUNCILOR Jerry Uy is calling for the suspension of entrance fee collection on all viajeros/suppliers bringing in commodities and other goods for sale particularly agricultural products to Tacloban City.

In a privilege speech delivered Wednesday, Uy said that imposition of the entrance fee being collected by the City Treasurer’s Office on motor vehicles particularly delivery trucks carrying agricultural products coming from other local government units, runs counter to the provisions of Section 133 (e) of the Local Government Code of the Philippines.

2 soldiers killed, 2 wounded in clash with NPA rebels

TWO Army soldiers were killed while two others were wounded in an encounter between government troops and communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Samar province on Wednesday night, a military spokesman said.

Lieutenant Colonel Joel Alejandro Nacnac, spokesman of the Army’s 8th Infantry Division (ID), said in a radio interview that government troops recovered the bodies of the slain soldiers in Barangay Canlobo, Pinabacdao, Samar the following day after the incident.
