Yap: A Sinulog 2013 Party

FOR many years, I have not really gotten the chance to “party” during the Sinulog.

Being in the food and beverage industry, I feel obliged to actually work on the festival day. Last year I was hosting Sinulog ta Bai Live sa Sky and it was an awesome experience.

This year I decided to pass on the opportunity to host with Sky Cable one more time.

As much as I wanted to, I just couldn’t. It is the first Sinulog of Alejandro’s since we moved to Century Plaza Commercial Complex, a location much, much nearer to where the craziness happens on Sinulog day. So obviously, more carefully planned preparations were in order and I had to be present to see how it goes. So exciting!

At around 2 p.m. on Sinulog day, people started pouring in at the Century Plaza parking lot. I had prepared three stations where people could buy food and drinks, a modest DJs booth, and a VIP area that had restricted access.

By 5 p.m. the area was already packed. All sorts of people started drinking, eating, face and body painting, and dancing. For me it was also like a festive reunion seeing old friends and acquaintances who were passing around shots of beer and tequila.

Although I promised not to drink on Sinulog day (for self-preservation), I ended up indulging in a few shots of hard liquor and a few bottles of beer. I just couldn’t help myself! People were having such a great time and I wanted to be a part of it.

DJs Jong Garcia, Distraction, Drew Sarmiento, Rian Ramos, Herb Cabral, and Rain Man Dizon were some of the DJs who really “killed it” from the early afternoon ‘til the break of dawn.

To be honest, I have never experienced Sinulog like this before. All the hard work me and my staff put into this event has all paid off just seeing people have such a great time. I am also very grateful that we Cebuanos are a peace-loving people who respect each other and who party responsibly.

This year definitely did not feel like work at all. I had a great time with all the people who joined us that day and I am looking forward to Sinulog sa Alejandro’s 2014.

I can imagine that it can only get even better. So to all those who came, thank you and see you again next year. To all those who did not come, join us in the next one.

You won’t regret it (*wink*).
