Yap: Sanctuary

Lex in the city

Alexis Yap

WHEN troubles come into our lives, sometimes all we want to do is disappear where no one could find us and hope that our troubles would just go away. That’s how I feel at this time of my life.

How fortunate for me that in the midst of my turmoil, I get a phone call from Manna Alcaraz, a good friend of mine who works with the Imperial Palace Water Park Resort and Spa. She said, “Lex, I’m sorry to hear about what happened. Maybe now is the perfect time for you to spend the weekend with us in one of our Lifestyle Villas.”

A part of me thought it would be a terrible idea to be going away amidst the hullabaloo but on second thought, it was the weekend and I was in desperate need of a change of environment. So I took the invitation hoping for a weekend of escape.

Walking to the front desk, we were immediately greeted by a beautiful and very pleasant young lady from the guest relations desk. Her name was Tam, and her smile assured me my stay was going to be as relaxing as I had hoped. After filling out the check-in form, a golf cart took us to our personal villa for the weekend. A basket of fresh tropical fruits, a chocolate cake, and a bottle of Chilean red wine were all beautifully arranged on the living room table.

The living room opens out to a very inviting outdoor, private pool with two beach chairs and an umbrella. As if that wasn’t enough to take our breaths away, the California king-sized bed was adorned with flower petals, a complimentary sarong and a shirt and native hand-crafted house slippers- his and hers. The bathroom is complete with a spacious bathtub, a toilet, and shower.

After settling in, we decided to stay in and enjoy our private pool. It was quiet and peaceful... and the red wine was the perfect touch in achieving a perfect evening we will never forget.

At 8am breakfast was served at the Familia Buffet Restaurant. It was one of the busiest breakfasts ever! Not just because it was attended by a sea of in-house guests but also because of the wide variety of food, from cereals to cheeses, to Korean, Chinese, and Japanese dishes!

It started to drizzle and we decided to leave the water park to the kids and young at heart. We stayed in to nap a little (it was a vacation after all) watch the Vasquez Jr.-Donaire boxing match, and walked to Imperial Palace’s Cheon San Chinese Restaurant for a special lunch personally prepared by the one and only Chef Kenny.

It was still raining in the afternoon and so after lunch we decided to hang out in our private pool before finally checking out.

We had such a great time at the Imperial Palace’s Lifestyle Villas. It was the perfect escape from all my troubles. Sadly, I had to go back to the real world and face the music. I wish everyday was an “Imperial” day – worry-free and stress-free.
