Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is among the most active and standardized department of the government. Police is concerned primarily with the maintenance of public order, safety of the citizen, and the system of laws in our city. As a citizen, I see police stations as a dark place where the criminals are being put in jail.
As a part of our internship, we are being exposed to the difference kind of fields and offices. On our first day, we were asked to go to the Davao City Police Office to read through blotters.
Sun.Star Davao reporter Ma’am Ivy was there for us. The bad weather did not stop us from searching for news. Somehow, I got a glimpse of what a field reporter’s work really is.
It did feel creepy reading about a murder in the police blotter, but as a field reporter, you have to read through all that and you get a better understanding of what’s happening.
As a field report or a news writer, you can also find light in dark places through better understanding.
Sun.Star Davao gave me an experience that I will surely remember for the rest of my life… (Shiela Mae C. Llanes/University of Mindanao)
