Y-Speak: Traffic!

-A A +A

Saturday, June 7, 2014

I READ in the newspaper about the repair of the Bankerohan Bridge and am no longer surprised why there is always it’s very congested there. Bankerohan is just a bottleneck, and the repairs on the bridge just add to the congestion.

It’s good that classes in private schools are not open yet. But they will be very soon, Banekrohan will be packed, jampacked.

The alternate route the Bolton Bridge in Ecoland is also getting some repairs and is causing traffic buildup too. But it looks like these are minor repairs. I really hope that this will be done by the time classes in private schools open. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for us students who will be coming from the south to go downtown to our school.

The speed limit has already made our travel time long. Now add the traffic jam.

If this becomes even worse, then expect a Manila-type of jam. That one is scary.

I have a friend who has to go to work as early as 4 a.m. just to beat the buildup in Makati. She lives faraway, she says, in Sta. Rosa. Every morning she wakes up really early just to be in the office before the vehicles start crawling toward Makati. It was hard at first, but she got used to it.

I still can’t imagine the long hours spent inside a van. That’s a lot of wasted time just commuting.

I’m on my last year in college, I will be working soon after (I home, I pray). With the build-up of motor vehicles every year, will I be just like my friend in Sta. Rosa a few years from now?

Davao City is growing very fast. We see traffic jams all over. It might not be as bad as in Manila, but it is already there.

I wonder what is being done to ensure that our city will not stand still just because there are more vehicles than our roads can handle.
