My friend is an idol
I ADMIRE her for she carries herself so well... I like the way she talks and the way she leads the group, but most of all, I love her for inspiring me to go on.
Marjorie had been a friend, adviser and inspiration to me for a couple of years now.
It is more than because she is reaching her dreams in a foreign land, not even because she has never forgotten about our friendship. It is not because she has poise; not because of the experiences we’ve shared. I am inspired because I saw in her the strength to continue after a painful loss.
It’s been five years since her father passed away because of a heart attack. I’ve never seen her cry since we learned about it the next morning in class. I thought it was just easy for her to accept that sad fact. Days passed and she seemed all right until in one of our English classes we came across a story about a girl who lost her father to a sickness she never understood as a child. It was a touching story for us... much more to her. She cried in front of us for the first time. I realized then that it wasn’t easy at all.
Some friends come in and out of our lives but they leave special marks behind. As the plane bound for Canada took her out of our sight, I still remember that day in our English class.
We may be two continents apart but the friendship still continues. She made me realize that being strong doesn’t mean holding back the tears, it is about letting it all out and continuing the journey of life.
A good friend, truly an idol.
