Cabaero: Celebrating Independence Day abroad
THE holiday declaration for Independence Day last Friday, June 12, gave people a chance to go to the mall with the family, clean the house or to catch up on some sleep.
Any celebration of the historic event’s anniversary was mostly of government-initiated activities.

Ironically, while Filipinos in the Philippines take Independence Day as just another holiday from school or work, Filipinos who have relocated to other countries look forward to the anniversary as a chance to cure homesickness and, in the process, internalize more the meaning of the celebration.<b>(more)</b>
