THE Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, in line with its commitment to product safety and quality, issued an advisory on Tuesday for a Special Service Campaign for the 65 units of their Prius (ZVW30) vehicles produced from 2009 to 2014 and officially sold in the Philippines.

The affected vehicles may have the booster element in the inverter module damaged due to thermal stress, according to the company in an advisory released Tuesday through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) regional office.

The company said this will trigger the Malfunction Indicator Lamp to turn on and activate the “Fail Safe Mode.”

In some instances, it said that the motor/generator Engine Control Unit will reset and cause the hybrid system to shut down and the vehicle may stop while being driven.

As a preventive measure, the DTI said that the Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. will perform vehicle inspection and Engine Control Unit software reprogramming to eliminate thermal stress at the inverter module at no cost to the vehicle owner.

The DTI said that customers with the affected vehicles are enjoined to undertake the free inspection and repair starting February 13, 2014 at the Toyota dealers in their locality.

The DTI said the program is offered to all Toyota dealers nationwide. (Bong Garcia)
